The Longest Sofa in Malaysia | Malaysia Book of Records

Recognized by the Malaysia Book of Records, The Longest Sofa in Malaysia is a large-scale upcycling project created using recycled denim materials.

The Achievement

Recognized by the Malaysia Book of Records, the Longest Sofa in Malaysia stands as a masterpiece of functional upcycling. Measuring a staggering 52.5 meters, this project is a flagship example of how sustainability events can transform post-consumer waste into a nationwide attraction.

Upcycling Innovation

To combat textile waste, the sofa was upholstered using thousands of donated used denim pants contributed by the public. Over a six-month production period, this initiative diverted significant amounts of heavy fabric from landfills, proving that circular economy principles can be applied to large-scale furniture manufacturing.

Social Sustainability

This record-breaking feat was a collaborative effort involving 200 participants, including members of the Creative Sewing Association (PSJK) and inmates from the Seberang Perai Prison in Penang. By involving marginalized groups, the event promoted "Social Sustainability," providing vocational training and a sense of purpose through creative labor.

National Tour

Inaugurated by the Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, the sofa has traveled to major hubs including Terengganu, Ipoh, Kuantan, and Kuching, serving as a mobile exhibition to educate the public on the beauty of upcycled materials.
