Sustaining Empowerment Project Program Year 2024

About the Program

Building on the success of previous community empowerment initiatives, the Persatuan Seni Jahitan Kreatif Malaysia (PSJKM) once again partnered with the Ministry of Local Government Development (KPKT) to deliver the Zero to Hero Sewing, Natural Dye & Eco Printing Program in Kuching, Sarawak.

Conducted from February to March 2024, the programme empowered 30 participants from B40 and eKasih communities, providing them with practical skills, entrepreneurship knowledge, and sustainable income-generating opportunities through creative sewing, natural dyeing, and eco-printing.

Through a structured combination of:

• Creative Sewing Skills
• Natural Dye Techniques
• Eco Printing Applications
• Entrepreneurship Development
• Business Coaching & Mentorship

participants were able to develop marketable products and establish home-based micro-businesses.

The previous cohort achieved outstanding outcomes, with more than 80% of participants generating over RM700 per month in additional income, significantly improving household financial resilience and quality of life.

The positive results reinforced the value of the programme and inspired KPKT to continue supporting a new group of participants in 2024, with the goal of expanding the programme's social and economic impact.

Post-Training Support Ecosystem

To ensure participants could immediately apply their new skills, each participant received access to essential tools, materials, and resources required to start their entrepreneurial journey.

6-Month Mentoring & Monitoring Program

A key component of the programme is the structured 6-month mentoring and monitoring period, which provides participants with ongoing support beyond classroom training.

Through regular coaching sessions, business monitoring, and skills reinforcement, participants receive guidance to:

• Improve product quality
• Strengthen marketing capabilities
• Build customer confidence
• Grow their micro-enterprises

This long-term approach helps ensure that participants achieve measurable outcomes and remain motivated throughout their entrepreneurial journey.
